Empanadas are a stuffed pastry. The name comes from the verb ‘empanar’, meaning to wrap or coat in bread. Empanada is made by folding a dough patty around the stuffing. They are known and cook all over Spain and Latin America, being done in different shapes and filled with a wide variety of stuffing; meat, fish, cheese, etc.

In Venezuela, empanadas are done with corn flour, and the ones done with wheat flour are called ‘pastelitos’.
